The German Automakers BMW comes with new and powerful M8 convertible. BMW has finally released full details on its new range-topping flagship. The two-door M8 comes in coupe and convertible with 617hp “Competition” version available of each. Interesting tech includes variable strength braking and a cheeky drift mode.
The car is coming this week, the fiercest iterations of BMW’s striking grand tourer promise “near-super-car” performance but without sacrificing on comfort.
The BMW M8 Convertible
However, that’s all about to change than it debut on 2017. According to BMW, there’ll be four configurations of the car. They are the 2020 M8 Coupe, the 2020 M8 Convertible, the 2020 M8 Competition Coupe, and the 2020 M8 Competition Convertible. All will use a 4.4-liter S63 M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine.
For the regular M8, that will be tuned for 600 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, and 553 lb-ft of torque between 1,800 and 5,700 rpm. The M8 Competition, meanwhile, will crank the horsepower number up to 617 hp, while slightly extending the top end of the peak torque band to 5,860 rpm. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, but can be extended to 189 mph with the M Driver’s Package.
Besides that, Power is fed to the xDrive AWD drivetrain through an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, which offers three automatic shift modes in addition to paddle shift. Likewise, drivers can select between three drivetrain modes: regular old 4WD, 4WD sport. This is biases power toward the rear wheels, or 2WD mode, which emulates a straight rear-wheel drive.
Other than thee features, they might as well have a Drift mode button, complete with a backwards baseball cap icon. The mode is called as “a driving experience of singular purity for the experienced wheelman.” Coming to the speed, all of this adds up to a brisk 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time of 3.3 seconds for the M8 coupe and 3.4 seconds for the M8 convertible.
